Global vs Local themes

When you import a new theme into your StoreHippo store, the theme is linked to a global theme. By keeping the theme linked to a global theme has some advantages as well as a few restrictions.

Advantages of a Globally Linked Theme

• New enhancements, bug fixes, cross-browser fixes to the widgets and theme reflect automatically in the linked theme.
• You can still design the theme as usual. Design variables are saved locally.
• You can override selected widgets. Only the overridden widgets will be unlinked.

Restrictions 

The only restriction is that you can not modify the layouts or static assets. 

How to unlink a global theme to make it local?

To unlink a linked theme from the global theme, please follow these steps:

Option 1

1. Go to Site > Themes section in your StoreHippo Admin Panel.
2. Click on the ellipsis icon next to the theme that you want to unlink.
3. Select the Unlink theme from the actions drop-down. You will be prompted to unlink the theme. 
4. Click on the Unlink button.

Option 2

1. Click on the Design Theme icon in the top header of your StoreHippo Admin Panel.
2. From the theme drop-down, select the theme you want to unlink.
3. Go to the HTML > Layouts or Assets. The option to unlink is provided there.
4. Click on the Unlink button.
